Our Care
Every family is different & beautiful…
We become part of the family, like an extra daughter, sister or cousin, and it’s an absolute honour to be in the room with our patients at the end of their lives. Every family is different and beautiful, and we feel lucky to get to know you. Our nurses haven’t got the jobs because they’re qualified, all nurses are qualified – it is in them to want to care for those at the end of their lives, it is a special job for special nurses.”

Palliative Care
24/7 Specialist Nursing Team
When our nurses get involved with a family, they become part of that family.
Our team of specialist palliative care nurses are funded by us (Registered Charity No: 1153338) and managed by the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital.
They provide holistic care, treating the whole person, including physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs. Our care extends to our patients’ family, carers, and all those dear to them.
Our nurses are contactable 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Rarely, if ever, will you not know the nurse on the end of the phone.
Our nurses provide continuity of care for all palliative patients and their families throughout their journey, including:
-
Specialist symptom control for complex patients (working with specialist consultants when needed).
-
Home nursing, enabling patients to remain in their own homes and preventing unnecessary hospital admissions.
-
Psychological and emotional support for patients and families.
-
Coordination and oversight of wider community support to meet the individual needs of each patient and their family.
Day Centre
Based in Sidford
The day starts with drinks and snacks and sometimes activity sessions, which include arts, crafts and music, are led by skilled visitors.
A two-course hot lunch is provided and patients can enjoy our purpose-built spa bath designed to reduce pain and anxiety and improve wellbeing for palliative patients in our newly refurbished bathroom.
Other complementary therapists may visit during the day to provide relief from pain and other symptoms, as well as a mobile hairdresser to improve quality of life and holistic wellbeing.
